The gift tracker your phone calendar can't be
Your phone calendar tells you it's someone's birthday. It doesn't tell you what you got them last year (so you don't duplicate), what they mentioned wanting last time you talked, what their partner likes (for couples-gifts), or that their anniversary is also next month. Birthdays slip past. Gifts get bought in panic at the airport. Birthdays is a tiny calm app: people you care about, their special dates, what you've given before, and what worked.
What you see
The **dashboard** is the morning panic-saver: who's coming up **this week**, who's coming up **this month**, anniversaries in the next 30 days, and a **year-at-a-glance** bar chart so you can see "August is heavy, get ahead." Plus a recent-gifts feed so you remember what you just gave. The **people** page lists everyone you've added — sortable by upcoming birthday (default) or alphabetically, filterable by search across name/relation/notes, with an archived view for relationships that aren't current. A **person detail** page shows their dates, your running notes (allergies, partner's name, what they're into), and a **gift history timeline** so you don't duplicate. Logging a new gift is one form — what, when, occasion, "did they love it?" — and the next year you have context. The **gifts** page is the full chronological history, grouped by year. The thing you scroll three years later when you want to remember "did I get Mom the Dutch oven before or after the Sicily photo?".
What it doesn't do
No Facebook scraping. No "let us send the gift for you" upsell. No automated Amazon links. No notifications you ignore. Birthdays is manual entry by design — you type the person, you type the date, you remember what mattered.
Built to compound
MM-DD storage (no year, no timezone math). Optional anniversary alongside birthday. Free-text relation, free-text occasion, free-text channel. Color tag per person. "They loved it" boolean as the only signal that compounds — looking at "what did Mom love?" three years later is the whole product.
